SAFRA Runway Cycling at Paya Lebar Air Base

Have you cycled on the 15 km runway before, where fighter jets land and take off?

According to SAFRA, Singapore is the only country in Asia to open up a runway for cycling. The Runway Cycling event was held at Paya Lebar Air Base and is open to the public for recreational activities like cycling and roller-blading.

SRCD grasped the golden opportunity to guide 28 deaf participants to Paya Lebar Air Base on 20 June 2004. It was indeed the first time that the deaf community participared together in Runway Cycling event.

The anxious deaf participants collected the rented bicycles from the bicycle kiosks and cycled towards the starting point. When the event flagged off at 8.30am, more than 6,500 cyclists eagerly pedaled away on the runway.

The scenic view along the runway and the beautiful natural scenery lightened up everyone’s mood as they got a reminder to adopt a healthy lifestyle through sports.

We would like to thank SAFRA for sponsoring the rental of the bicycles. The feedbacks from the deaf participants were positive and some of them are eager to come back again the following year!

Yeah! We finally completed the 15km runway cycling!

We had never experienced cycling along the runway!
