32 deaf
nature lovers joined in the Green Adventure programme organized
by SRCDeaf on 27 February 2005, Sunday.
In the very early and
cool morning, the participants boarded a “Smiley” bus at
Singapore Association for the Deaf. The nature adventure began
with the first park, LowerPeirce ReservoirPark located at Old
Upper Thomson Rd.
At this
park, they took a 25 minutes walk along the broadwalk besides
the reservoir and trekked through the forest. Some deaf families
encouraged their kids to appreciate the nature and walked
together in efforts to continue their family spirits.
Exiting out
of Lower Peirce Reservoir Park, they proceeded to the next park,
Upper Peirce Reservoir Park. The participants relaxed for a
snack break along the dam built between Lower Peirce Reservoir
and Upper Peirce Reservoir. The families and individuals brought
their own food to enjoy their “picnic”. SRCDeaf treated snacks
to everyone.
Heading for
the next park, they visited the 7-storeys tower for a
spectacular view at Upper Seletar Reservoir Park. The kids
excitedly climbed up to the top of the tower and waved their
hands to their parents!
Finally, they had
lunch at Sembawang Shopping Centre. After that, the “Smiley” bus
brought everyone to taste their first-hand experience through
the bus washing machine at SMRT’s Woodlands Bus Depot. One of
the deaf adults showing her emotions in her sign language, “I
often rode in the car through the washing machine but never did
I experience in this bus!”
After the
“bus bath”, the participants were brought to the dam along
Yishun Ave 1. They took a breathtaking view of Johore Bahru
across Singapore island before heading back to Singapore
Association for the Deaf.
With the
courtesy of NTUC Income, the Singapore Street Directory books
were distributed to all the participants. SRCDeaf would like to
thank Public Utilities Board (PUB) for sponsoring NEWater
bottles for our fruitful green adventure.
