The Deaf national team from Singapore participated in the
5th Asia Pacific Games for the Deaf 1996 held at Kuala
Lumpur from 31 March 1996 to 1 April 1996. It was
Singapore’s first participation in this big event. We took
part in track & field, badminton and football tournaments.
Singapore managed to clinch two bronzes in the Games. It was
good enough just to get a medal!
In 2000, Singapore sent a national squad of 16 deaf athletes
to the 6th Asia Pacific Games for the Deaf from 3 November
to 9 November 2000. Our Deaf athletes participated in four
of the eight sport events – athletics, badminton, bowling
and swimming. At the end of the Games, our Deaf contingent
returned home with a haul of ten medals!
