On 9 August
1974, in conjunction with the National Day Celebration, the club
was inaugurated on the grounds of the Canossian Oral School for
the Deaf in Jurong. In 1978, it was named ‘Youth Group for the
Deaf’ which was later renamed as Social Group for the Deaf in
1978 to cater to all Deaf members regardless of age, race,
religion and educational background. Instead of remaining in the
world of silence and solitude, a small group of deaf members
were encouraged to share their wide spectrum of experiences and
skills through this club and develop leadership qualities and
nurture the
potential, talent and community spirit of the Deaf. With
confidence, they worked hard towards the goal of establishing
the deaf club and to provide more social activities and programmes.
